Hilary Newby

Hilary first became involved with Bawds when she took on an Assistant Stage Manager role for THE MADNESS OF GEORGE III, a job which also involved her making a fleeting appearance as a servant. Other productions as an ASM for the company include THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, LUCKY SODS  and THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF YOUR LIFE (Properties & Furnishings).

In 1996 Hilary took over as Treasurer of Bawds, a post which she currently holds on the company's General Committee. Her responsibilities extend to the day-to-day financial management of the company and the preparation and monitoring of production budgets, including SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER, THE MANY FACES OF SHAKESPEARE, LUCKY SODS,  LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES , A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS (for which she was also an Assistant Stage Manager), A CHRISTMAS CAROL (again as ASM), 84 CHARING CROSS ROAD (also assisting backstage), AN IDEAL HUSBAND (ASM Properties), KATHERINE HOWARD (pictured left as a Lady-In-Waiting to the Queen), THE SECRET GARDEN (Finance), TIME OF MY LIFE (ASM)  THE WINSLOW BOY, TREASURE ISLAND (ASM Properties), JANE EYRE, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST, NEVER THE SINNER JOKING APART (Finance) THE MAN IN THE IRON MASK (ASM Properties & Finance), THE DEEP BLUE SEA (Finance), AND A NIGHTINGALE SANG (Finance) LITTLE WOMEN and PYGMALION (Finance).
 

Hilary made her directing debut for Bawds with a production of Arnold Ridley's THE GHOST TRAIN (co-directed with Ron Meadows); she has also worked as an ASM on productions for other companies; these include AMADEUS, HABEAS CORPUS, SALAD DAYS and RACING DEMON.
