John's many appearances for Bawds include AS YOU LIKE IT (Le Beau), MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING ( Don Pedro), THE SEA (Thompson), SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER (Mr Hardcastle), THE TAMING OF THE SHREW (Baptista Minola), TOM JONES (Squire Western), A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM (Starveling / Egeus), THE DOUBLE DEALER (Careless), THE ELEPHANT MAN (Conductor) and THE TINDERBOX & OTHER STORIES (Molar).

John's love of the theatre was consolidated during his eight years spent in Africa in the 1960s when he participated a number of the Salisbury Rags Reps Theatre productions; his favourite role being Camille in A FLEA IN HER EAR.
