Val was born in Rhosllanerchrugg (ask Val how to pronounce it!) in North Wales and was in a touring variety company from the age of three until her family moved to England where she appeared in many plays with societies both in Cheshire and Staffordshire.  At the age of seventeen Val achieved her LAMDA gold medal for acting. For many years Val ran a drama workshop for seven to eleven year-olds, winning many awards at local drama festivals.
